Own Your Own Company? 4 Benefits Of Using A Relational Database Management System

A relational database management system (RDBMS) can offer your company many benefits. This type of management system uses different types of software to create databases. The database itself stores data in rows with one row per item and shows these items in columns if desired. Below are some benefits of choosing to use a RDBMS for your business.

1. Allows Multiple Users

More than one person can access an RDBMS database at the same time. Each person using the database can make changes to it and these changes are saved in real time. The database updates constantly so other people can see the changes quickly. If you do not want someone to have access to what you are currently working on you can lock that section of the database. You then unlock it when you are finished doing your work. While it is in lock mode, other users cannot see what you are doing.

2. Can Set Up Restrictions

As with any software, there may be people in your company that you do not want to have access to the database. If so, you can set restrictions. You do have to be set up as an administrator to do this, however.

This authorization may be based on the user's network sign on or their IP address. When setting up the restrictions, the administrator can give access to only parts of a database but keep other areas of the database off limits. If you have employees that work at home, they can also be set up in the same way.

3. Easy Maintenance

All software must be maintained, such as backing up or applying security patches. The RDBMS database provides you with many tools to allow you to do your own maintenance. For example, there are tools that allow you to back up, repair, apply updates, and test the database. These tools are built into the software, so you always have easy access to them if you are an administrator.

4. Access Via Network

The RDBMS can be accessed via a network. This is beneficial as your employees do not have to be at their desk to access the database. If the employees are set up on their computer away from the office, they can access the database any time they need to. Once the employee is logged in it is just as if they are sitting in their office at their own computer. This works well if you have any employees that work at home or if employees cannot make it into the office due to weather conditions, car problems, etc.

Talk with a company that sells RDBMS software like AquaTech Software Inc and they can give you much more information.
