2 Signs You Should Consider Installing a Water Purification System in Your House

Whether your home's water supply comes from city services or an onsite well, you may take it for granted and not really think about whether its quality is high enough. However, there are a couple of signs you should look for to assess whether or not there may be a problem with the water quality. These signs should make you consider installing an in-home water purification system for your home.

1.  Clothes Have Unexplainable Stains after Being Washed

One sign that your home's water quality is not up to par is when you start noticing unexplainable stains on your clothes after running them through the washing machine. These stains may be rust-colored or brown. You may also notice that your whites come out dull and discolored.

If there are high amounts of heavy metals or even bacteria in your water, the residual minerals or byproducts from the bacteria will be deposited on the clothes. When the washer goes through the rinse cycle, these deposits will not be washed away and will set in once the clothes go through the dryer.

However, these stains could also be caused by dirt in the washing machine itself. After giving the washer a thorough cleaning by running vinegar through an empty cycle and not seeing any improvement, your home's water is likely the cause of the stains and discolorations. A filtration and purification system can help to remove the heavy metals and bacteria from the water supply.

2.  Tap Water Has an Odd Odor and Color

Another sign that your water's quality is subpar is when it starts to take on an odd odor and/or color as it is coming out of the faucet. The water may have a rusty color, and if you hold a glass of water up to the light, you may see tiny specks floating around.

As far as the odor, it may smell sour or foul, which could indicate bacteria contamination. This is especially true after you have ruled out a problem with your sewer lines or issues with rusty pipes. You should have your water tested to see if you and your household may benefit from a purification system.

If your home's water quality is poor enough to stain your clothes and give your tap water a strange odor and/or color, you should consider taking steps toward improving it. Contact a business that offers in-home water purification systems to discuss the various available options for you.
